Annie Windley from Derbyshire overcame anorexia, regained her health, and found strength through running — inspiring others to believe in recovery.
Woolley Moor, Derbyshire — Annie Windley’s story is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible, no matter how dark the struggle may seem.
Diagnosed with anorexia in 2012, Annie’s weight dropped to just 29 kg (63 lbs) at her lowest point, putting her life in serious danger. For years, she battled the mental and physical toll of the disorder.
Choosing Recovery
In 2014, Annie began her journey toward healing. By 2017, she made a firm decision to fully commit to recovery — not just physically, but mentally.
One turning point was discovering her passion for running. The sport gave her a healthy outlet, rebuilt her strength, and offered a sense of achievement. Her dedication led to a major milestone: completing the Chesterfield Half Marathon.
A Healthy Transformation
In just a few months, Annie gained over three stone (19 kg), reaching her healthiest weight in years. More importantly, she developed a positive mindset, learning to value herself beyond numbers on a scale.
Annie now encourages others to be kind to themselves, chase personal goals, and believe in their ability to recover.
“You are worth so much more than your illness,” she says. “Recovery is hard, but it’s the best decision you’ll ever make.”
A Message of Hope
Annie’s journey shows that with determination, support, and self-compassion, it’s possible to overcome even the toughest challenges. She continues to share her story to inspire others to start their own path toward health and happiness.
