Utah Police Officers Killed After Responding to Domestic Violence Call
A quiet Sunday night turned into tragedy when two police officers were fatally shot in Tremonton, Utah, while responding to what authorities say began as multiple 911 hangup calls.
The fallen officers have been identified as Sergeant Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrada, both members of the Tremonton-Garland Police Department.
What Happened
According to officials, one officer initially responded to the home linked to the hangup calls. While speaking with a resident about a reported domestic disturbance, a male suspect suddenly emerged and opened fire, fatally striking the officer.
A short time later, a second officer arrived at the scene and was immediately ambushed by the same suspect, who fired multiple shots.
A deputy from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office also responded for backup but was shot when the suspect fired into his vehicle. The deputy and his police K9 were both injured and later hospitalized in “fair condition.”

Bystanders at the scene bravely intervened, convincing the suspect to surrender his weapon before additional officers arrived.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox called the incident a heartbreaking loss.
“Today, our hearts are broken. Sgt. Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrada gave their lives in service to their neighbors and community,” Cox said. “Abby and I join all Utahns in mourning alongside their families, the Tremonton-Garland Police Department, and every officer who puts on the uniform to protect others.”
Both men are being remembered for their bravery, service, and ultimate sacrifice.
