Oscar-winning actor Christian Bale is proving that his greatest role may be off-screen. The 50-year-old star has broken ground on a $22 million foster care village in Palmdale, California — a first-of-its-kind project designed to keep siblings in foster care together.
Expected to open in 2025, the village will feature 12 family-style homes and a community center, offering stability and belonging to children who are too often separated by the system.
How the Dream Began
Bale’s commitment to this cause goes back to 2008, when he learned how frequently brothers and sisters were split apart in Los Angeles foster care. Deeply moved, he co-founded Together California with Tim McCormick and Dr. Eric Esrailian, turning a personal passion into a long-term mission.
From Vision to Reality
The road hasn’t been easy — with years of delays, funding hurdles, and the pandemic slowing progress. But in 2022, public funding was secured; in 2023, designs were finalized; and by early 2024, construction finally began.
“I love design, I love architecture, and seeing it finally come to life is very exciting,” Bale said, noting that he has been hands-on with architects and community leaders every step of the way.

While more fundraising and foster parent recruitment are still needed, the project is already being hailed as a breakthrough. For Bale, it’s personal:
