A 12-year-old Petersburg boy saved his siblings and grandmother from a house fire, earning praise from the fire chief and the honorary title of firefighter.
A Seventh Grader Turns Hero
In Petersburg, Virginia, a normal afternoon turned into a life-or-death situation — and a 12-year-old boy is now being called a hero for saving his family.
Romir Parker, a seventh grader, was at home in early June when he suddenly heard strange noises coming from downstairs. As he went to check, he was met with thick, black smoke filling the house.
Inside was his grandmother, unable to escape on her own. Without hesitation, Romir rushed through the smoke, found her, and led her outside to safety. He also made sure his siblings were safe before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters Praise His Bravery
The Petersburg Fire Department reached the home within minutes, but officials admitted the situation could have turned deadly if Romir had not acted quickly.
Fire Chief Wayne Hoover praised the boy’s courage, saying:
“Even if our crew got there within four minutes, Romir saved his family’s lives.”
As a tribute, the city honored Romir with a special proclamation, and the fire department officially made him an honorary firefighter.
A Future Firefighter in the Making?
Chief Hoover went even further, telling Romir that when he turns 18, there will be a place for him at the Petersburg Fire Department if he chooses to join.
For now, Romir is being celebrated not only by his family but also by his community — a young boy whose quick thinking and bravery saved four lives in the face of danger.
