Texas Teen’s Life Changed in Seconds

A 14-year-old Texas student, Lukas Hardeman, is fighting to recover after a shocking school attack left him with severe head injuries. The incident took place on August 21 at Kilgore Middle School, where Lukas reportedly made a lighthearted joke in the cafeteria before another student allegedly smashed his head against a metal pole attached to a stool.


Emergency Surgery and ICU Care

Lukas was rushed to Children’s Hospital in Dallas, where doctors performed urgent surgery to remove two sections of his skull to relieve swelling and bleeding. He also required 60 staples to close his wounds.

His father, Michael Hardeman, told KLTV:

“He’s embarrassed. He is hurt. He is struggling. But I hope when he sees this, he knows he has a lot of family behind him. My son is only alive today because of Jesus.”

Family’s Heartbreak and Community Support

Lukas’ mother, Catom Morris-Hardeman, shared on the family’s GoFundMe page that the sudden trauma has left their family overwhelmed:
“We’ve had to travel hours from home, miss work, and face growing medical and travel expenses as Lukas begins his long road to recovery.”

So far, the fundraiser has collected nearly $39,000 of its $40,000 goal, showing strong community support for Lukas and his family.

Safety Concerns in Schools

This incident has intensified safety concerns among parents in Kilgore ISD. According to reports, ambulances have been called multiple times to local campuses since August 20.

School Board President Jason Smith addressed the issue on Facebook, explaining that while federal privacy laws (FERPA & HIPAA) prevent full disclosure, the district is working to ensure campus safety without compromising security.
