At just 26, Sam Springsteen was officially sworn in as a Jersey City firefighter this week. Proud parents Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa sat in the front row, cheering as their son joined 14 others at the City Hall swearing-in ceremony.
The addition of Sam and his classmates brought the Jersey City Fire Department to 666 uniformed members. Speaking to CBS New York, Springsteen expressed his pride:
“It was a long road, he’s very dedicated, quite a few years, and we are just excited for him today.”
After the ceremony, the Springsteen family posed for photos with Sam, joined by his older brother Evan.
A Dream Years in the Making
Sam’s career path wasn’t a sudden choice. He graduated from Monmouth County Fire Academy in 2014 and spent years as a volunteer firefighter across three different stations. His mother, Patti Scialfa, marked the milestone months earlier with a heartfelt Instagram tribute:
“CONGRATULATIONS … You followed your dreams… JC firefighter. Stay safe. Love your brave heart.”
Lessons From “The Boss”
For Bruce, the moment was deeply meaningful. The rock legend has often shared how he wanted his children to build their own paths in life. In a 2019 CBS interview, Springsteen reflected:
“I don’t want my kids to have to dig themselves out of my hole. They’re gonna have their own hole… that’s just part of life. As a parent, you do your best to not lay too much of your own bull** on them.”*
