Boxing icon Ricky Hatton’s son, Campbell, opens up after an inquest confirmed his father’s death was ruled as suicide at age 46.
The world of boxing has been left heartbroken after the death of former world champion Ricky Hatton, whose passing was officially ruled as suicide during a recent inquest.
The 46-year-old boxing legend was found unresponsive at his home on September 14 by his manager, Paul Speak, who had arrived to take Hatton to Manchester Airport for a flight to Dubai.
Authorities confirmed that Hatton’s provisional cause of death was suicide, following the findings shared at a Coroner’s Court hearing on October 16.
Hatton, known for his incredible career and fights against world-class opponents including Floyd Mayweather Jr., was one of Britain’s most beloved sports figures — admired for both his talent and humility.
💬 Son Campbell Hatton Speaks About His Father’s Passing
Before the inquest, Ricky Hatton’s son, Campbell Hatton, 24, appeared on Good Morning Britain to share how his family has been coping with the devastating loss.
“Obviously, we’ve been leading up to the funeral, which was unbelievable to see the amount of love everyone had for my dad,” Campbell said.
“There were thousands in the streets, and there was a lot of comfort to take from that. It has been very up and down, really, but as a family, we’re just trying to take each day at a time.”
Campbell went on to reflect on how much his father valued his fans, saying that Ricky “was more proud of his fanbase than all the belts and titles he ever won.”
🌍 A Final Farewell Filled With Love
The younger Hatton described the outpouring of public support as “unbelievable.”
He added:
“To actually see everyone lining the streets—it was surreal. It was a very long route, and there was never a point where the streets weren’t full. It just showed how much he meant to people.”
Fans, fellow athletes, and sports icons across the world have since paid tribute to Ricky Hatton, remembering him not only as a fierce competitor in the ring but also as a man who always had time for those who supported him.
