A Florida inmate who shocked the internet with claims that she got pregnant behind bars — without ever meeting the father — has now learned her fate in a murder case that’s been haunting her since 2022.
Daisy Link, 30, gained worldwide attention last year when she revealed that she conceived a child while locked inside the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade. She claimed the baby was the result of an unconventional connection with fellow inmate Joan DePaz, who was held on a separate murder charge.
According to Link, the two communicated through their cells’ ventilation systems — knocking and talking for hours each day. “Being in isolation for so long, you begin to spend hours talking,” she told reporters. “It feels like you’re in the same room.”
But the woman once dubbed the “Miracle Mom of Miami” is now facing a grim reality.
Guilty Verdict in 2022 Murder Case
This week, a South Florida jury found Link guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting death of her longtime partner, Pedro Jimenez.
Prosecutors said Link shot Jimenez in the leg outside her Homestead home in June 2022, then walked away as he bled to death. The jury took less than two hours to reach their verdict.
Her defense team argued the shooting was in self-defense, citing years of domestic violence. During her testimony, Link said through tears:
“That’s the father of my kids… It’s not like I didn’t love him. I did.”
Her 11-year-old son testified remotely, saying he saw Jimenez point a gun at his mother and miss before pistol-whipping her.
Still, jurors sided with prosecutors, one telling reporters, as quoted by the New York Post:
“If he’s running away and she shot him in the back, that doesn’t seem much like self-defense.”
The Jailhouse ‘Miracle’
Before the verdict, Link had already captured international attention for her jaw-dropping jail pregnancy story.
She gave birth to a baby girl on June 19, 2024, while still in custody. According to her, the conception happened through an air vent using “improvised insemination.” Link said she inseminated herself using semen passed through the vent in a plastic wrap, applied with yeast infection applicators.
DePaz reportedly called the event “like the Virgin Mary.”
Medical experts described the pregnancy as nearly impossible. Dr. Fernando Akerman, medical director of the Fertility Center of Miami, said the odds of success were “less than five percent.”
Awaiting Sentencing — and Hoping for Mercy
Link is set to return to court on November 21 for pre-sentencing. She faces years in prison, the same place where her so-called miracle baby story began.
Her sister, Crystal Barretto, hopes the court will show compassion:
“I hope the judge takes into consideration the domestic violence history, the evidence presented, the time she’s already served, and her children — especially the new baby.”
