When Nigerian mom Stacy gave birth to twin boys — one with dark skin and one with albinism — strangers were stunned. Now she’s using their story to raise awareness and celebrate beauty in diversity.
The Rare Birth That Stunned Everyone
In February three years ago, Stacy, a 31-year-old mother from Lagos, Nigeria, welcomed identical twin boys — but their appearance shocked everyone.
Daniel was born with dark skin and black curly hair, just like his 5-year-old sister Demilade. Moments later, David arrived with pale skin and golden curls. It was a sight so rare that nurses came rushing in to see them.
The parents had no idea before birth — pregnancy scans hadn’t revealed anything unusual. Stacy’s husband, overcome with joy, gave David a sweet nickname: “Mr. Golden.”
Understanding Albinism
David has oculocutaneous albinism, a rare genetic condition that affects the skin, hair, and eyes. It occurs in about 1 in 20,000 births and is more common in Nigeria than in many other countries, with over two million Nigerians living with the condition.
Thankfully, David has no health problems so far. But his parents are aware of the challenges — in Nigeria, people with albinism often face stigma and discrimination.

The family’s unique story quickly captured public attention. Today, Stacy’s Instagram account has nearly 18,000 followers, where she shares adorable updates of her sons to spread awareness about albinism.
Daniel is energetic, playful, and a food lover. David is calmer, observant, and a little picky with meals. Despite their differences, they share one thing in common — boundless curiosity.
Breaking Stigma and Inspiring Others
Stacy says she loves both her boys equally and wants the world to see their beauty. The family has even received modeling offers from UK agencies because of the twins’ striking contrast.
“They are a blessing,” Stacy says. “We’re using their story to educate people and to celebrate differences.”
