A family in Georgia is living through a nightmare after their 2-year-old son, Beckham Reed, was stung more than 150 times by yellow jackets—an attack that left him in critical condition and fighting for his life.
The terrifying incident happened when Beckham was riding his electric toy car with his cousins. Unknowingly, he disturbed a yellow jacket nest. In seconds, the swarm attacked, covering his small body in stings.
At first, doctors treated him in the ER with morphine and Benadryl, then sent him home. But within 24 hours, Beckham’s condition took a dangerous turn. His skin turned yellow—a sign of something gravely wrong. His parents rushed him back to the hospital, where doctors discovered that the venom had caused multi-organ failure, affecting his kidney, liver, and heart.
Making matters worse, Beckham was born with only one functioning kidney. The sheer amount of venom overwhelmed his body. With no antivenom for yellow jacket stings, doctors could only provide life support—ventilators, dialysis, and IV medications—while his body slowly worked to clear the toxins.
His father, Peyton, has taken time off work to stay by his son’s side, as doctors warn the recovery will be slow and fragile.
Still, there’s hope. By Wednesday, Beckham’s liver and kidney function began showing improvement. “Beckham is waking up more, and we know this is good news,” the family shared. “He is STRONG and a great kicker. We know Beckham is a fighter and he’s fighting to get better.”
