In 2023, a tragedy struck the home of Sadie Myers and her husband, Don Starr, when their 4-year-old twin daughters, Kellan and Aurora, died after accidentally suffocating in a wooden toy chest. “They pulled out all but a few stuffed animals to make it comfortable, then laid inside, arm over arm, and probably said good night to each other,” Sadie wrote.

“Sometime during their sleep, the lid closed. They slowly ran out of oxygen and passed away. There was no gasp for air, just a slow transition from sleep to passing on,” Sadie explained.

The next morning, the twins weren’t in their beds. It was their older sibling who finally found them in the chest, thinking they were just being playful.
“‘Mommy, I found them! They’re so silly, just sleeping in the toy box,’” Sadie recalled. But within seconds, she realized the heartbreaking truth — it was already too late.
A Family’s Message to the World
Sadie urged other parents:
“If you have a toy chest like this, please destroy it immediately! I hope knowing this helps in some way and prevents another tragedy.”
Her husband, Don, shared his grief online as well, writing:
“My beautiful family was stricken by tragedy — the loss of our perfect twins. Please hug your kids, even the grown-up ones, for me.”
