The tragic assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025, during his “American Comeback Tour” in Utah has sparked a storm of conspiracy theories online. Among the most viral claims: that Kirk’s head tilting to the right immediately after he was shot proves the gunman was standing on that side, just steps away from him.
But according to a body language expert, the viral footage is being misinterpreted — and Kirk’s final movements tell a very different story.
Conspiracies Thrive After Tragedy
Whenever a high-profile figure is killed, conspiracy theories almost always follow. Psychologists explain that theories offer people a sense of control — a way to “make sense” of chaos.
In Kirk’s case, speculation has spread like wildfire across social media, ranging from claims the FBI staged the incident to accusations that the wrong suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested.
And at the center of the debate? The moment Kirk’s head snapped to the right after the fatal shot.
Expert: Head Tilt Doesn’t Prove Shooter’s Location
Jesús Enrique Rosas, a well-known body language and persuasion analyst, released a detailed video debunking the claim.
“I’ve been sent this clip hundreds of times, with people saying, ‘So the real shooter was to the right, right next to Charlie Kirk,’” Rosas said. “But that’s not what the footage actually shows.”
Rosas explained that if the shooter had truly been standing to Kirk’s right, the bullet would have entered from that side, and Kirk’s head would have been more likely to tilt toward the wound — to the left.
Instead, Kirk’s head tilting to the right suggests the bullet came from a different angle — possibly from the front or left side, not the right.
He emphasized that the human body doesn’t always react predictably under trauma:
“When someone is shot, their body may jerk or collapse in unexpected directions as it instinctively tries to absorb the shock or protect vital areas.”
Neuropsychologist Explains Why Kirk Had No Awareness of Attack
Another expert, Derek Van Schaik, a neuropsychologist with 650,000 YouTube followers, offered a scientific breakdown of the footage.
Based on a frame-by-frame analysis, Van Schaik concluded Kirk lost consciousness within four-tenths of a second after the bullet struck his neck.
“That is far too fast for his brain to even register what happened,” Van Schaik explained. “He did not know he was shot, and psychologically he was unable to process anything catastrophic.”
He added that while neck pain can register in about 100 milliseconds, Kirk blacked out long before his brain could process it as pain.
The Arm Movement: Not What People Think
In the viral clip, Kirk can be seen raising his arms toward his neck before collapsing. Some online users suggested this was a case of decorticate posturing, a neurological reaction when higher brain areas are damaged.
But Van Schaik dismissed that idea:
“Decorticate posturing occurs when the cerebral hemispheres are badly damaged, cutting off voluntary motor control. That’s not what happened here.”
Instead, Kirk’s arm movement was likely an automatic reflex — his body’s last attempt to protect the wound before losing all function.
The Bigger Picture
While speculation online has fueled confusion, experts say Kirk’s final moments show clear medical and physical responses to a catastrophic wound — not evidence of a second gunman or a staged scene.
Both Rosas and Van Schaik stress that the viral footage, when examined carefully, supports the official account rather than undermining it.
