LeAnne and Eric adopted baby Easton, a shaken baby survivor whose biological parents neglected to feed him. Their journey from fear to unconditional love is nothing short of remarkable.
A Baby Left to Starve
When LeAnne and Eric first received the call about a two-month-old baby boy in desperate need of a home, they had no idea how drastically their lives were about to change.
The infant, Easton Matthew, had been diagnosed with Non-Organic Failure to Thrive. His biological parents neglected to feed him properly—choosing instead to sleep or go to work. By the time he was removed from their care, he was frail, blue, and weighed barely over 7 pounds.
“The doctor handed over a tiny baby and said, ‘Take him home, love him, and feed him because in a few days, this could be a different story.’ For the first time in my life, I was afraid to take a baby home,” LeAnne recalled.
From Foster Parents to Lifesavers
When Easton arrived, he was so weak he couldn’t even cry for food. Years of neglect had stolen his natural instincts. His new foster parents were warned he might not survive.
But LeAnne and Eric refused to give up. They set alarms to feed him every two hours, day and night, carefully following medical instructions. At first, his fragile body could only handle half an ounce of formula. Slowly, feed by feed, ounce by ounce, he began to gain strength.
A Home Built on Unconditional Love
The couple already had four biological children, but their hearts had long been pulled toward foster care. After years of prayer and preparation, they were licensed to foster-to-adopt—and Easton became the child they would fight hardest for.
“When a baby’s cries aren’t answered, they stop crying. They give up the will to fight,” LeAnne explained. “But we were not giving up on him.”
Their dedication paid off. As Easton grew stronger, his spark returned. With love, care, and medical support, he blossomed into a thriving child.
From Neglect to New Beginnings
The journey wasn’t easy—there were many sleepless nights and moments of fear. But through it all, LeAnne and Eric’s commitment never wavered. Eventually, they were able to adopt Easton officially, giving him not just survival but a forever family.
Today, Easton is living proof of the power of second chances. What began as a terrifying, heartbreaking situation transformed into a story of resilience, faith, and the healing power of unconditional love.
