Beloved pastor and theologian Voddie Baucham Jr. has passed away at 56. Known worldwide for his bold sermons, teaching, and faith, his sudden death leaves a lasting legacy.
The evangelical world is mourning the sudden passing of Pastor Voddie Baucham Jr., who died on September 25, 2025, at the age of 56. His death comes just 13 days after delivering a heartfelt tribute to the late Charlie Kirk, making the news all the more heartbreaking for his family, congregation, and global followers.
A Ministry That Touched Millions
Born on March 11, 1969, Baucham Jr. rose to prominence as a pastor, theologian, author, and speaker, widely respected for his bold sermons and uncompromising teaching of Scripture. Known for addressing cultural issues with biblical conviction, he became a trusted voice in evangelical circles across the U.S. and abroad.
He served as Dean of Theology at African Christian University in Lusaka, Zambia, and was a founding faculty member of the Institute of Public Theology. Over the years, he also became a best-selling author, speaker, husband, father of nine, and grandfather.
His Final Sermon: A Prophetic Farewell
On September 12, 2025, Baucham preached one of his final sermons, a dedication to conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Drawing from the book of Titus, he spoke on the “knowledge of the truth that accords with godliness.”
In hindsight, his message feels almost like a farewell of his own. In a post on social media, he wrote:
“You might kill the messenger, but you can never kill the message. Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk 🕊️.”
Today, those words carry a bittersweet weight.
Health Battles and a Miracle Recovery
Baucham Jr. had faced serious health struggles before. In 2021, he was diagnosed with advanced heart failure following a preaching tour. With his family uninsured at the time, a GoFundMe campaign raised over $1.4 million to cover his medical expenses.
Despite the life-threatening diagnosis, Baucham recovered and continued his ministry in Zambia and abroad — a testament to his resilience and faith.
A Life Beyond the Pulpit
In addition to ministry, Baucham was passionate about education and discipleship. He and his wife, whom he married in 1989, homeschooled their children and built their family life around biblical values.
He was also an unexpected athlete, taking up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2012 for self-defense and outreach. In 2019, he even opened Zambia’s first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy, blending discipline with ministry.
A Legacy That Lives On
The announcement of his passing was shared by Founders Ministries, which honored him with these words:
“Earlier today, after suffering an emergency medical incident, he entered into his rest and the immediate presence of the Savior whom he loved, trusted, and served since his college conversion.”
Baucham leaves behind his wife, nine children, grandchildren, and countless spiritual sons and daughters worldwide. His life and teaching continue to inspire, reminding believers of his unwavering message: that truth and godliness cannot be separated.
