A devastating house fire in Pinneberg claimed the life of 9-year-old Sofia, leaving her family and community heartbroken. Here’s what happened and how people are showing support.
A terrible tragedy has shaken the town of Pinneberg, Schleswig-Holstein. A late-night fire in a two-family home has claimed the life of nine-year-old Sofia, leaving her family, friends, and neighbors in deep sorrow.
The Fire That Trapped a Child
The fire broke out shortly after 11 p.m. on Monday evening in the attic of the home, where Sofia and her 14-year-old brother had their bedrooms.

While her brother noticed the smoke in time and managed to escape to his parents on the first floor, Sofia’s path was blocked by the flames. Despite desperate attempts by her parents to reach her, the fire spread too quickly. Neighbors eventually helped the parents and son escape using a ladder.
Tragically, Sofia never made it out.
Family Injured, Father Still in Hospital

The father suffered severe burns on his arms and needed hospital treatment, including artificial respiration at first. He is now able to breathe on his own but remains under medical care.

Sofia’s mother and brother were also treated for smoke inhalation but have since been released and are staying with relatives.
Remembering Sofia
Sofia was described as a bright, cheerful girl who loved glitter, the color pink, and dancing hip-hop. She attended elementary school in Pinneberg, where classmates and teachers are now mourning her loss.
A family friend, Keven Petersen, has started a donation fund to support the grieving parents during this unimaginably difficult time.
