Diddy’s Sentencing Explained as Judge Gives Him More Than 4 Years in Prison
Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to 50 months in prison and fined $500,000 after being convicted on prostitution-related charges.
The 55-year-old music mogul was arrested in New York last September. After a lengthy trial, he was acquitted of the most serious allegations, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. However, the jury found him guilty of two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution under the Mann Act, a law that prohibits transporting people across state lines for prostitution or immoral purposes.
What Was Diddy Convicted Of?
Central to the prosecution’s case were reports of “freak-offs”—drug-fueled sex parties, often filmed, allegedly organized by Combs. The court heard that he paid women and sex workers to travel across state lines to attend these events.
Although each count under the Mann Act carried a maximum of 10 years in prison, Judge Arun Subramanian opted for just over four years, rejecting both the defense’s request for only 14 months and prosecutors’ demand for more than 11 years.
Judge’s Remarks During Sentencing
Judge Subramanian directly addressed Combs in court:
- He acknowledged the victims’ voices, saying, “We heard you.”
- He dismissed the defense’s claims that the encounters were consensual, adding: “You abused these women. You used that abuse to get your way.”
- He noted that “the evidence of the abuse is massive” and said drugs had fueled Combs’ violent behavior over the years.
Alongside the prison term and fine, Combs will also serve five years of supervised release once freed.
What Happens Next?
Combs has already spent 13 months in custody, which will count toward his sentence. This means he is expected to serve roughly three more years behind bars, unless his appeal succeeds.
Beyond the criminal case, Diddy is facing over 50 civil lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct and abuse.
