What began as a supposed tale of survival has unraveled into a shocking murder case. Franklin Batallas, 44, is facing charges of murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon after allegedly killing his girlfriend, Anthonella Contreras Linarez, 30, in the Bronx.
A Story That Didn’t Add Up
On September 15, 2025, Batallas claimed he and Linarez were on their way to dinner on City Island when she needed to stop by the roadside. He told police two men on a moped ambushed them, stabbed Linarez during an attempted robbery, and left him with minor injuries.
He said he rushed her to Montefiore Hospital in New Rochelle, where she was tragically pronounced dead. Linarez had suffered multiple stab wounds to her face, neck, and body.
But investigators quickly discovered that Batallas’ story didn’t match the evidence.
Police Find No Evidence of an Ambush
According to the NYPD, surveillance footage revealed no signs of mopeds or attackers following the couple. Detectives say Batallas’ description of “men in hoodies” was fabricated, and no proof of outside involvement exists.
On Saturday, Batallas was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court and is now being held without bail at Rikers Island. His attorney has not commented.
Family in Shock
Loved ones of Linarez say the couple had been together for three years, and no one saw this coming.
Her sister, Mayker Contreras, expressed heartbreak:
“My sister was a wonderful person. She loved everyone. She loved to travel, especially to the Dominican Republic. But her life was taken away too soon.”
She added, “The only question I have for him is: ‘What happened?’ We just want the truth.”
