Federal officials have announced the arrest and sentencing of a Texas man who attempted to flee a Border Patrol checkpoint, injuring an agent and transporting an undocumented passenger. Here are the full details of the case.

Federal officials have released new details about a serious arrest connected to a dangerous incident at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint.

According to court documents, the case began on August 1, 2023, when 26-year-old Kevin Dominguez approached a Border Patrol checkpoint on U.S. Highway 57 near the Texas–Mexico border. During a routine inspection, agents noticed unusual movement coming from the trunk of Dominguez’s vehicle.

A trained Border Patrol K-9 signaled that something was hidden inside, prompting agents to order Dominguez to pull over for a secondary inspection. When officers opened the trunk, they found an undocumented individual concealed inside the vehicle.

Before agents could fully secure the scene, Dominguez suddenly put his car in reverse and attempted to speed away, hitting a Border Patrol agent in the process. The situation quickly escalated as Dominguez fled the area.

Law enforcement later located and arrested him. Prosecutors explained that Dominguez’s actions put both the hidden passenger and federal officers at serious risk. The injured agent required medical attention, and investigators collected video evidence and witness statements to support the case.

Dominguez eventually pleaded guilty to assaulting a federal officer and transporting an individual unlawfully.
